Karen, you just need to up the contrast. It's too light to mid-tone overall. You'll probably be able to fix it up with the watercolor though, since you'll not want it too dark before in case it goes muddy. Just a thought.
i agree with laurel. it's just the values. lack of sleep will make us do silly things like forget that. ; ) if it helps any, just turn grayscale on in photoshop to see where it's struggling.
